De Rotterdam, vertical city along the banks of the river Maas

“De Rotterdam”

Despite the building sector crisis in the Netherlands, the city of Rotterdam continues to build. The best example is the spectacular building “De Rotterdam”, designed by the internationally renowned architect Rem Koolhaas (OMA). It has been completed on 15 november 2013 on time, within budget, and in accordance with the original project proposal. De Rotterdam is located right next to the Erasmus bridge and  the cruise terminal and redefines the Rotterdam skyline. The hybrid building consists of 3shifted volumes that share a single plinth. This vertical city is the largest multifunctional building in the Netherlands, it combines a 4-star design hotel, luxury apartments, world-class office space, cafés/restaurants, leisure/fitness facilities, a 5 level parking garage and a grand entrance. De Rotterdam is a sustainable building. The combined heat and power unit uses a bio-oil fired system and the water from the river “de Maas” is used for cooling.
